Speech files, 1944-1971.

Files primarily contain copies of speeches made by the Secretary of State or his assistants to various groups concerning a variety of subjects (e.g., radio address to the public on drivers' licenses, address to the Sixth Constitutional Convention). Occasionally included are copies of outgoing correspondence from the Secretary of State distributed to particular groups of individuals on matters specifically involving them. Infrequently included are press releases, photographs, newspaper clippings, and correspondence concerning the speeches.

A Public Information Division was formed in 1944 to keep Illinois citizens informed of the proper procedures for filing legal documents with the Secretary of State and of services available to them through the office.
